Step Inside The Moral Injury Clinic
If you’ve ever felt stuck between what’s right and what’s possible—if you’ve wrestled with frustration, exhaustion, or even a deep sense of betrayal—this newsletter is for you.
The Moral Injury Clinic Newsletter is for high-empathy humans in high-stress and high-stakes situations who struggle with the emotional and ethical weight of their work.
Every clinician, teacher, researcher, lawyer, parent or public servant wants to live and work in alignment with their deepest-held values. But most end up feeling morally compromised, disillusioned, or burned out because the systems we operate within often force impossible choices.
If this sounds familiar, you've probably tried self-care routines and resilience training. Maybe you've even sought professional coaching or therapy—but still haven’t found the clarity or relief you need.
Here’s why:
Most Professionals in High-Stakes Fields Focus on Numbing or Coping, Not Recognizing and Repairing the Root Cause
As a result, they feel emotionally depleted, disconnected from their purpose, and at risk of long-term moral injury.
But after two decades of working at the intersection of ethics, trauma, and clinical practice, I discovered that true healing isn’t just about resilience—it’s about moral integrity.
So, if you want to navigate ethical challenges with confidence but also need tools to process the moral distress that comes with the job, this newsletter is for you.
Who Am I?
My name is Dr. Alyssa Burgart.
I've been a professional ethicist for over twenty years, a moral distress intervention leader for ten years in a large academic hospital, and an anesthesiology doctor supporting patients who are in pain, suffering, and facing critical illness for fifteen years. I believe that learning nevers stops, so I’ve also trained to be a certified Trauma-Informed Professional Coach and a Relationship-Centered Communication Facilitator.
I started this newsletter because I see too many brilliant, compassionate professionals burning out—not from a lack of skill or effort, but because they felt morally trapped.
I know what that feels like, and I also know it doesn’t have to be this way.
What began as personal research has grown into a mission to bring practical, evidence-based insights to those who need them most. Now I’m sharing everything I’ve learned about moral injury, moral distress, and moral resilience—so you can navigate these challenges in alignment with your values.
Why Subscribe?
Every few weeks, I send one evidence-based, actionable newsletter that helps you align your life with your values—without resorting to toxic positivity or empty platitudes.
